英语词类

十种:名词、形容词、代词、数词、冠词、动词、副词、介词、连词、感叹词。

1、名词(n.):表示人、事物、地点或抽象概念的名称。如:boy,morning,bag,ball,class,orange.

2、代词(pron.):主要用来代替名词。如:who,she,you,it.

3、形容词(adj..):表示人或事物的性质或特征。如:good,right,white,orange.

4、数词(num.):表示数目或事物的顺序。如:one,two,three,first,second,third,fourth.

5、动词(v.):表示动作或状态。如:am,is,are,have,see.

6、副词(adv.):修饰动词、形容词或其他副词,说明时间、地点、程度等。如:now,very,here,often,quietly,slowly.

7、冠词(art..):用在名词前,帮助说明名词。如:a,an,the.

8、介词(prep.):表示它后面的名词或代词与其他句子成分的关系。如in,on,from,above,behind.

9、连词(conj.):用来连接词、短语或句子。如and,but,before.

10、感叹词(interj..)表示喜、怒、哀、乐等感情。如:oh,well,hi,hello.

句子成分

1、主语是句子所要说的人或事物,回答是“谁”或者“什么”。通常用名词或代词担任。如:I’m Miss Green.(我是格林小姐)

2、谓语动词说明主语的动作或状态,回答“做(什么)”。主要由动词担任。如:Jack cleans the room every day. (杰克每天打扫房间)

3、表语在系动词之后,说明主语的身份或特征,回答是“什么”或者“怎么样”。通常由名词、代词或形容词担任。如:My name is Ping ping .(我的名字叫萍萍)

4、宾语表示及物动词的对象或结果,回答做的是“什么”。通常由名词或代词担任。如:He can spell the word.(他能拼这个词)

有些及物动词带有两个宾语,一个指物,一个指人。指物的叫直接宾语,指人的叫间接宾语。间接宾语一般放在直接宾语的前面。如:He wrote me a letter . (他给我写了一封信)

有时可把介词to或for加在间接宾语前构成短语,放在直接宾语后面,来强调间接宾语。如:He wrote a letter to me . (他给我写了一封信)

5、定语修饰名词或代词,通常由形容词、代词、数词等担任。如:Shanghai is a big city .(上海是个大城市)

6、状语用来修饰动词、形容词、副词,通常由副词担任。如:He works hard .(他工作努力)

7、宾语补足语用来说明宾语怎么样或干什么,通常由形容词或动词充当。如:They usually keep their classroom clean.(他们通常让教室保持清洁) / He often helps me do my lessons.(他常常帮我做功课) / The teacher wanted me to learn French all by myself.(老师要我自学法语)

八种基本时态

1.一般现在时

概念:表示经常发生的动作或经常存在的状态。

常和always,often,usually,sometimes,every day等表时间的状语连用。

构成:1)主语+be(am/are/is)+……

2)主语+实义动词/三单动词+…

2.一般过去时

概念:1)表示过去某个时间发生的动作或存在的状态.

常和表示过去的时间状语连用.如:yesterday,last week,in 1998,two days ago等.

2)也可表示过去经常或反复发生的动作.

构成:1)主语+be(was/were)+……

2)主语+实义动词过去式+

3.现在进行时

概念:表示现在(说话瞬间)正在进行或发生的动作.

构成:主语+助动词be(am/are/is+动词-ing形式构成.

4.过去进行时

概念:表示过去某一时刻或某一段时间正在进行的动作.这一特定的过去时间除了有上下文暗示外,一般用时间状语来表示.

构成:主语+助动词be(was/were)+动词-ing形式构成.

5.一般将来时

概念:表示将来某个时间要发生的动作或存在的状态,也表示将来经常或反复发生的动作,常与表示将来的时间状语连用,如:tomorrow,next week,next year,in the future等.

构成:1)主语+助动词will+动原+…

2)主语+be goingto+动原+….

6.过去将来时

概念:表示在过去将来的某一时间发生的动作或存在的状态.

构成:1)主语(第一人称)+助动词should+动原+…

2)主语+would+动原+….

3)主语+was/ were going to+动原…

用法:过去将来时除了上下文暗示外,一般常用在间接引语中,主句谓语动词为过去时态.

7.现在完成时

构成:主语+助动词(have/has)+动词过去分词+…

用法:表示过去发生或已经完成的动作对现在造成的影响或结果.

8.过去完成时

构成:主语+助动词had+动词过去分词+…

用法

表示过去在过去某一时间或动作之前已经发生或完成了的动作.它表示的动作发生的时间是”过去的过去”.表示过去某一时间可用by,before等构成的短语,也可用when,before,等引导的从句或者通过上下文表示.

构词法

1、合成法:如:spaceship,headache,basketball,playground等等。

2、派生法:

(1)派生名词:①动词+er/or②动词+ing③动词+(t)ion④形容词+ness⑤其他,如:inventor,learner,swimming,congratulation,kindness,carelessness,knowledge

(2)派生形容词:①名词+y②名词+ful③动词+ing/ed④friendly⑤dangerous⑥Chinese;Japanese⑦English⑧French⑨German⑩国名+(i)an如:snowy,sunny,hopeful,beautiful,interesting,follwing,daily(每日的),nervous,delicious

(3)派生副词:①形容词+ly②其它,如:slowly,angrily,full→fully,good→well,possible→possibly等等。

3、转换法:

(1)形容词→动词,如:dry(干燥的)→dry(弄干),clean(干净的)→clean(打扫,弄干净),等等。

(2)动词→名词,如:look,walk,rest,work,study,swim,go,talk等等。

(3)名词→动词,如:hand(手)→(传递),face(脸)→(面对)等等。

(4)形容词→副词,如:early→early,fast→fast等等。

(5)副词→连词,如:when(什么时候)→(当……时候),等等。

(6)介词→副词,如:in(到……里)→(在里面;在家),on(在…上)→(进行,继续),等等。

❷ 高中英语重要连词归纳

(一), 并列连词
1, and连接语法作用相同的部分.
Let me know what you saw and heard in Europe.
如果连接的两个名词是指同一个人而有两种身份时,第二个名词前不要加冠词或所有格.
Her husband is a singer and songwriter.
祈使句+and代替条件句.
Work hard and you will pass the examination.
(1) 由and连接的两个单数名词(2)and前面的主语
之前有every, each, no, many a的时候用单数谓语动词.
Every train and bus was crowded with many people.
2, both+主语+and+主语+"复数谓语动词"
Both Tom and Jerry are going to the cinema.
3, not only…but (also)如果连接两个主语,谓语动词临近原则.
Not only he but also his parents are very kind to me.
4, as well as后面的主语不作为成分.
This study, as well as many other reports, shows that cancer can be cured.
后面如果接动词一定要用动名词.
She sings as well as playing the piano.
5, nor是否定连接词, 后面接的句子应倒装.
I don't know, nor do I care.
因为nor是连接两个句子, 如果连接的不是句子,而且前面有否定词的时候,不用nor而是用or. 除neither以外
Never try to talk or argue with Mary.
6, but除了可以连接句子表示转折以外,还可以用在no one, none, nobody, nothing, all, every等词之后表示"除了…以外"
He tried hard but he was unsuccessful.
All the boys but one are here.
7, however, nevertheless, still, yet,含意相同相当于"but…anyway".
adv. (conj)
The car was old, yet(nevertheless) it was in excellent condition.
She has her weaknesses, yet(but) that doesn't mean she is not qualified for the job.
He lied to me, yet I still believe him.
8, while表示的是"相反的",也可以用but, however, on the other hand来代替.
While some people have nothing to eat, others eat too much.
9, or连接句子或词组 "或者"
Which do you prefer, yellow, blue or red?
Was he angry, or was he pretending?
10, or, or else, otherwise都是否则的意思.
Be quick, or/otherwise you will be late.
11, either … or/neither … nor的动词同样是临近原则.
Either Mary or her parents are going by bus.
There is neither electricity nor free suppers in the hotel.
12, so表示因此, 相当于therefore.(adv.)
They cost a lot of money, so use them carefully.
It is very cold. Therefore, we should stay here.
13, then (adv)然后,而后,其次
I dropped in at her house and then I went home.
14, for不可以放在句首;之前必须由逗号; 表示推论的理由
They must be good friends, for they are always together.

1, that引导名词性从句(主语/宾语/表语从句),同位语从句,定语从句,…
That smoking can cause cancer is known to all.
I was surprised to hear that he became the president.
2, whether/if(是否) if 能引导宾语语从句
Please tell me whether it is true or not.
I haven't decided whether/if I'll go with you.
在介词后,名词后,不定式前和有or not的句子中用whether.
I am worried about whether she is happy.
3, when, while, as
when 在---时刻或时期,可指时间点或时间段,从句动词是终止或持续动词.When I got home, he was having supper.
When I was young, I liked dancing.
As 表示"边---边---"或"与---同时"表示动作同时发生伴随进行.动词相似.如终止性动词为从句,则主句也为终止性动词.
They talked as they walked.
While表示只是时间段,不是时间点,从句的动词只限于持续动词.
While I slept a thief broke in.
When 可以表示主句和从句先后发生.
When he has finished his work, he takes a short rest.
When 从句为终止动词不能为while 替换
When he came yesterday, we were playing basketball.
如从句动词为终止性动词,主句也是终止性动词 when 和as 可以互换.
He came just as I reached the door.
从句表示状态可以用while.
We should strike while the iron is hot.
4, after/before
After her husband died she had to take everything on herself.
Take the medicine before you go to bed.
5, since引导的从句是肯定句,一般主句都是完成时,
在it is … since这个结构里,从句可用过去时或现在完成时.
若是"it was … since"从句必须用过去完成时.
She has had another baby since we met.
It is two years since I last saw you.
It was two years since I had played cards.
6, till/until其中until较为常用, till是口语.
Until you told me, I had heard nothing of what happened.
7, as soon as
I'll tell him the news as soon as I see him.
8, once(一旦)相当于as soon as
Once he dies, everything will change.
9, because/since/as表示直接原因的时候不能用since或as.其他情况可以用.since-既然as- 由于(语气弱).
10, so/such… that 结果状语从句(程度)
She was so moved that tears came to her eyes.
They took such care of her that not long after she was restored to health.
11, so/such that(结果状语从句/目的状语从句), in order to/that…目的状语从句
They set out early so that they might arrive in time. 目的状语从句
Say slowly so that I can understand it.
It was raining, so that we could not go out. 结果状语从句(原因)
12, if(假如,如果)不能用whether.
If you call him a fatty, he will get angry.
13, unless=if not
You can not interview him unless you get the permission.
14, though/although都作为"虽然,尽管"可以互换,although用的更多一些. 后面不可以有but但可以有yet/still/nevertheless.
Although he is much better, yet his father isn't satisfied.
15, as…as/ than
16. Now that 既然

一、英语名词可分专有名词和普通名词两大类:

1、专有名词是个别的人、地、物、团体、机构等的专用名称。

专有名词中实词的第一个字母要大写。

如:Beijing, Tom, the People's Republic of China(中华人民共和国)

专有名词如果是含有普通名词的短语,则必须使用定冠词the。如:the Great Wall(长城)

姓氏名如果采用复数形式,则表示该姓氏一家人(复数含义),如:the Greens( 格林一家人)。

2、普通名词是许多人或事物的共有名称。如:pupil, family, man, foot.

普通名词又分为可数名词和不可数名词。

▲可数名词是可以用简单的数词进行计数的名词,如: box, child, orange;

▲不可数名词是不可以用简单的数词进行计数的名词。如:water, news, oil, population, information .

二、英语可数名词的单复数:英语可数名词有单数和复数两种形式。

1、名词由单数变复数的基本方法如下:

①在单数名词词尾加s。如:map → maps,boy→ boys,horse→ horses, table→ tables.

②s,o,x ,sh,ch结尾的词加es.如:class→classes, box→boxes, hero→heroes, dish→dishes, bench→benches.

[注]:少数以o结尾的词,变复数时只加s。如:photo→photos, piano→pianos.

③以辅音字母加y结尾的名词,变y为i,再加es。如:family→families, city→cities, party→parties.

④以f或fe结尾的名词,变f或fe为v,再加es。如:shelf→shelves, wolf→wolves, life→lives, knife→knives.

2、不规则变化:man→men, woman→women, sheep→sheep,tooth→teeth, fish→fish, child→children, ox→oxen, goose→geese

不可数名词一般没有复数形式,说明其数量时,要用有关计量名词。如:a bag of rice→two bags of rice, a piece of paper→three pieces of paper, a bottle of milk→five bottles of milk.

三、名词所有格:

1、 名词所有格表示所属关系,相当于物主代词,在句中作定语、宾语或主语。其构成法如下:

(1)表示人或其它有生命的东西的名词常在词尾加's。如:Childern's Day(儿童节), my sister's book(我姐姐的书)

(2)以s或es结尾的复数名词。只在词尾加'。如:Teachers' Day(教师节)

(3)有些表示时间、距离以及世界、国家、城镇等无生命的名词,也可在词尾加's. 如:

today's newspaper(今天的报纸), ten minutes' break(十分钟的课间休息),

China's population(中国的人口).

(4)无论表示有生命还是无生命的东西的名词,一般均可用介词of短语来表示所有关系。如:

a fine daughter of the Party(党的好女儿).

2、[注解]:

① ‘s还可以表示某人的家或者某个店铺,如:my aunt's(我阿姨家), the doctor's(诊所)

② 两人共有某物时,可以采用 A and B's 的形式,如:Lucy and Lily's bedroom(露西和丽丽合住的卧室)

③ “of+名词所有格/名词性物主代词”,称为双重所有格,如:a friend of my father's(我父亲的一位朋友), a friend of mine(我的一位朋友)

四、名词或代词作主语时和谓语之间的单复数的一致问题:

1、谓语和谓语基本保持单复数的一致,即:主语是可数名词单数或不可数名词时,谓语动词用单数形式:如:The computer was a great invention.(计算机是个了不起的发明)The water in the glass is very cold.(玻璃杯里的水很冷)

2、集体名词(如family, class, team, group, row, police, school等)做句子主语时,

① 如果表示整体概念,则谓语用单数形式,如:Class Three is a very good class.(三班是好班)

② 如果表示其中的所有成员时,则谓语用复数形式,如:Class Three have a map of China.(三

班有张中国地图)

3、Chinese, Japanese, fish, sheep, people等表示单个时谓语用单数,表示许多时,谓语用复数。如:There is a sheep in the yard.(院子里有只绵羊) / There are some sheep in the yard.(院子里有一些绵羊)

4、maths, news等虽然有s结尾,但不是复数,因此谓语仍用单数:The news is very exciting. (这个消息令人兴奋)

5、glasses, shoes, socks, trousers, gloves等名词往往用复数形式,故谓语用复数。如:

The trousers are very cheap and I want to take them.(裤子很便宜,我想买)

6、a lot of 后跟名词复数时谓语用复数形式,跟不可数名词时谓语用单数形式。如:A lot of students are playing baseball now.(现在有许多学生在打垒球) A lot of time was wasted on that work.(大量的时间花在了那个工作上)(被动句)

7、and 连接两个名词做主语时,谓语原则上用复数,但是两个名词若构成一个整体事物时,谓语则用单数。如:The teacher and his son are picking apples now.(老师和他的儿子在摘苹果) / Fish and chips is very famous food. (鱼和薯条是一种出名的食品)

8、 there be 句型中be的单复数一般由靠近的名词决定。如:There is a table and four chairs in the room.(房间里有一张桌子和四张椅子)

9、用both…and…连接两个事物做主语时,谓语一般用复数。如:Both you and I are required to be here tomorrow.(你和我明天要求都来)

10、主语中含有with的短语时,谓语单复数由with之前的人物决定。如:A woman with a 7-year-old child was standing at the side of the road. (一名妇女带着一个七岁的孩子(当时)就站在路边)

11、either…or…或者 neither…nor…连接两个人物做句子主语时,谓语采用就近原则。如:Either you or he is right.(要么是你对,要么是他对。/你和他有一个人是对的) / Neither you nor I am going there.(你和我都不打算去那里)

12、表示一段时间或长度概念的复数名词做主语时,谓语一般用单数。如:Two months is not a short time.(两个月不是个短时间)Two thousand kilometers is quite a long distance(距离).(两千千米是相当长的.一段距离)

13、主语中含有half of… / (three quarters)of… / all (of) the ….等词语时,谓语的单复数由名词确定,如:Over three quarters of the information on the Internet is in English.(因特网上四分之三以上的信息是用英语写的) / A third of the students were playing near the lake.(学生的三分之一(当时)正在湖边玩耍) / All of the water in these rivers has been polluted.(这些河流中的水已经被污染了)(被动句)

但是,population一词又有特殊情况: What's the population of China?(中国人口是多少?)(句子用单数) / Three quarters of the population in this city are Arabs(阿拉伯人).(这个城市四分之三的人口是阿拉伯人)(句子用复数)

五、部分名词用法辨析:

1、sport、game、match、race 的区别:sport通常指“户外运动”,以锻炼为主,概念较大;game意思是“运动、比赛”,不管户内户外还是脑力体力,指以胜负为主的运动;match意为“竞赛、比赛”,多指正式比赛;race主要表示“赛跑、赛马、赛车”。如:People all around the world enjoy sports.(全世界的人都喜爱运动) / The 2008 Olympic Games will be held in Beijing.(2008奥运会将在北京举行)(被动句) / Our school football team won the league match(联赛).(我们学校足球队取得了联赛冠军) / They were strong and won the boat race.(汤他们很棒,赢得了划艇比赛)

2、festival、holiday、vacation的区别:festival“节日”,指喜庆的日子或持续一段时间的文娱活动;holiday(假日、休息日),指法定假日或风俗习惯,复数可以表示一个较长的假期;vacation“假期”,指学习或工作中一段长时间的休息。如:The Shanghai Television Festival will be held next month.(上海电视节将在下个月举行) / Sunday is a holiday and most people do not work.(星期天是个假日,多数人不工作) / What are you going to do ring the summer vacation/holidays?(在暑期你打算做什么事情?)

3、journey、tour、trip、travel的区别:journey指在陆地上(或海上或空中)进行的长途旅行,不知终点,含有辛苦的意思;tour指途中作短期逗留的巡回旅行,强调游览多处,常用来指观光等;trip通常指往返定时的短途旅行,如出差度假等;travel多指长期或长途的观光旅行,尤其指到国外,没有明确目的地,也作不可数名词,指旅行这一行为。如:He made up his mind to make the journey to Dunhuang.(他拿定主意要去敦煌旅行)/ He has gone on a walking tour.(他步行观光去了) / He took several trips to Shanghai last yeaar.(去年他去了上海好几次) / Did you go to Santiago(圣地亚哥) ring your travels?(旅行期间你去圣地亚哥了吗?) / Travelling through thick forests is dangerous.(在密林里边穿行是很危险的)

4、sound、noise、voice的区别:sound指各种声音;noise主要指“噪音”;voice指人的“嗓音”。如:The noise of the street kept me awake in the night.(街上的喧嚣声让我彻夜难眠) / All of a sudden there was the sound of shots and a cry.(突然间传来几声枪响和一声尖叫) / The singer has lost her ringing voice as a result of a bad cold.(因为感冒的缘故,这个歌唱家失去了她银铃般的嗓音)

5、fish的问题:指许多条鱼且不管种类时,用fish,单复数相同;fishes 指许多种类的鱼;fish指“鱼肉”时是不可数名词。如:There are many kinds of fishes in the pool. (池子里有很多种类的鱼)/ I prefer fish to meat.(与肉相比我更喜欢鱼)

连词及其用法

1.连词是一种虚词,它不能独立担任 句子 成分而只起连接词与词, 短语 与短语以及句与句的作用。

2.常见的连词

and(和,与;而且;于是,然后;因此)

but(但是;通常用not...but...不是...而是...;可是,然而;表示惊讶,不同意等--喔,哇;用来加强语句重复部分的语气--一定;用来引入新话题--那就;常用于否定句--而不,若不;用于含doubt,question等字的否定句中相当于that--对于)

or(或者,还是;用于否定句或问句--也不;否则,要不然;也就是说,换言之)

nor(用在neither之后--也不;用在no,not,never之后--也不;用在句首,句子需倒装--也不)

so(因此,所以;因而,从而)

yet(可是,却,然而)

for(因为,由于)

both…and(既...又...;不但...而且)

not only…but also(不但,而且)

either…or(不是...就是;要么...要么)

neither…nor(既不...也不...)

3.并列连词:

①and 与or;②both …and两者都;③not only…but ...as well as=not only...butalso不但…而且;④neither…nor意思为"既不……也不……"谓语动词采用就近原则,与nor后的词保持一致。

4.转折或对比连词

①but表示转折,while表示对比。②not…but…意思为"不是……而是……"。

宾语从句

1.宾语从句,是名词性从句的一种。

在主从复合句中充当宾语,位于及物动词、介词或复合谓语之后的从句称为宾语从句。宾语从句分为三类:动词的宾语从句,介词的宾语从句和形容词的宾语从句。

2.宾语从句的引导词有三种:

(1)以that引导的宾语从句:

that引导的宾语从句一般都是由陈述句充当,引导词that没有实际意义,不在从句中作任何成分,that可以省略,而且从句成分齐全,句意完整。

Do you think (that) it will rain? 你认为天会下雨吗?

He said (that) he could come on time.他说他会准时来的。

(2)以whether或if引导的宾语从句:

从属连词if,whether引导的名词从句是由一般疑问句或选择疑问句转化而来的,变成从句后,语序由原来的倒装语序变成陈述语序。whether和if意为“是否”。

Let us know whether / if you can finish the work before Friday.

请让我们知道你是否能在星期五以前把工作做完。

I don’t care whether you like the story or not.

我不在乎你是否喜欢这个 故事 。

(3)特殊疑问词what/ when/ where/ who等引导的宾语从句:

此类宾语从句原来是特殊疑问句,变成宾语从句后要用陈述语序,由wh-开头的疑问词引导。包括who, whom, whose, what,which等连接代词和where, when, how, why等连接副词,这些引导词有各自的意思,在从句中要作相应的成分,不能省略。例如:

Could you tell me which gate we have to go to?

请问我们得走哪个门?

He didn’t tell me how long he would stay here.

他没有告诉我他要在这里呆多长时间。

非谓语动词的主动形式表被动意义

在某些句型中可用动名词和不定式的主动形式表被动意义 。

1. 在need,want,require, bear等词的后面,动名词用主动形式表示被动意义,其含义相当于动词不定式的被动形式。

例:The house needs repairing(to be repaired).这房子需要 修理 。

2. 形容词worth后面跟动名词的主动形式表示被动含义,但不能跟动词不定式;而worthy后面跟动词不定式的被动形式。

例:The picture-book is well worth reading.(=The picture-book is very worthy to be read.)

3. 动词不定式在名词后面作定语,不定式和名词之间有动宾关系时,又和句中另一名词或代词构成主谓关系, 不定式的主动形式表示被动含义。

例: I have a lot of things to do this afternoon. (to do与things是动宾关系,与I是主谓关系。)

试比较:I’ll go to the post office. Do you have a letter to be posted? ( 此处用不定式的被动语态作定语表明you不是post动作的执行者。)

4.在某些“形容词+不定式”做表语或宾语补足语的结构中,句子的主语或宾语又是动词不定式的逻辑宾语时,这时常用不定式的主动形式表达被动意义。

这些形容词有nice,easy,fit,hard,difficult,important,impossible,pleasant,interesting等。

例:This problem is difficult to work out .(可看作to work out省略了for me).

5. 在too… to…结构中,不定式前面可加逻辑主语,所以应用主动形式表示被动意义。

例:This book is too expensive (for me) to buy.

6. 在there be…句型中,当动词不定式修饰名词作定语时,不定式用主动式作定语,重点在人,用被动形式作定语,重点在物。

例:There is no time to lose(to be lost).(用 to lose可看成for us to lose;用to be lost,谁 lost time不明确。)

7. 在be to do结构中的一些不定式通常应用主动表主动,被动表被动。然而,由于古英语的影响,下列动词rent,blame,let等仍用不定式的主动形式表示被动意义。

例: Who is to blame for starting the fire?

所谓垂悬结构(The DanglingConstruction)就是一个句子成分,如分词短语,不定式动词短语等,找不到被修饰的主语或被修饰的对象不合逻辑。垂悬结构是种错误的句法,应该避免。

下面是三种常见的垂悬结构及其改正 方法 :

⒈垂悬分词或分词短语,如:

①Climbing up the hill, several boars were seen.

这句子里的现在分词短语(present participial phrase)修饰主语“several boars”是错的;改正方法有二:

(a)确定是逻辑主语,使句子变成“Climbing up the hill, the explorers saw severalboars.”

(b)把现在分词短语扩大为副词分句(也称状语从句):“When the explorers climbed up the hill, they sawseveral boars/ several boars were seen.”

⒉垂悬副词短语,如:

After putting a shrimp on the hook, the fish began to bite.

这句的副词短语(adverb phrase)和主语“the fish”有什么逻辑关系呢?真正的逻辑主语应该是“the fisherman”或“theangler”才对。改正方法:

(a) After putting a shrimp on the hook, the fisherman found that the fishbegan to bite.

(b) After the fisherman had put a shrimp on the hook, the fish began tobite.

⒊垂悬不定式动词短语,如:

To write well, a lot of practice is needed.

To be a loyal employee, a sense of belonging is a must.

这两个句子的不定式动词短语(infinitive phrases)并不能修饰“practice”和“a sense ofbelonging”,真正的主语必须是“ 人”,如:

(a) To write well, one needs a lot of practice/a person has to practise alot.

(b) To be a loyal employee, he or she must have a sense of belonging.

上述三类垂悬结构中,第一类发生的频率,必须注意。但是在下列三种情况下,分词短语是对的,它们并非垂悬结构:

第一,独立结构(The Absolute Construction,见3月7日《中英合谈》)中的分词短语有自己的主语,所以不是垂悬结构。例如:

Such being the case, we can go home now./……it is not wrong to call it aday.

第二,当分词含有介词或连词性质时,它不需要逻辑主语,所以没有垂悬问题存在。例如:

Owing to a lack of funds, the project has to be discontinued.

Provided that there is sufficient time, everyone can do the job better.

第三,当分词短语是用来表示说话者的态度或意见时,也不需要逻辑主语,因此也不存在着垂悬问题。例如:

Judging from his facial look, the news must have been terrible.

Taken as a whole, there is nothing wrong with the logic behind thatidea.

用来连接主句和从句的连词叫从属连词。从属连词分为两大类,即引导状语从句的从属连词和引导名词性从句的从属连词。

(一) 引导状语从句的从属连词

1、引导时间状语从句的从属连词

此类连词主要有:when, while, after, before, as, as soon as , now(that), until, till, once, since, whenever, no sooner...than, hardly/barely/scarcely...when,every time, each time, next time, the last time, the moment等。

When I got to the theatre, I found that they had sold all the tickets.当到达剧院时,我发现票已售完。

We should strike while the iron is hot.

我们要趁热打铁。

Since he entered the university, he has made great progress in his studies.

进入大学以来,他在学业上已经取得了很大进步。

They kept on working until it became dark.

此类连词主要有if, unless, as/so long as, supposing等。

表示行为方式的从属连词主要有as,as if/though等。

He spoke as though he knew the question very well.

他说得好像对这个问题知道得很清楚。

注意:以as if引导的状语从句,其谓语动词常用虚拟语气。与现在相反的情况用过去时,与过去相反的情况用过去完成时。

表示目的的从属连词主要有that, so that,in order that等。

I hurried so that I wouldn't be late for class.

John saved his money in order that he might buy a bicycle.

Bring it nearer that I may see it better.

7.表示结果的从属连词

表示结果的从属连词,主要有that,so...that,so that,such...that等。

They were so pleased to see each other that they forgot everything else.

It was such a cold day that there was nobody on the street.

二者之间区别:must强调主观,无时态变化,否定表示禁止不允许;have to强调客观,时态丰富,否定表示不需要。
