科技的進步,讓我們接觸到了大量的信息(technology has brought a surplus of information to our fingertips)。
No matter how many articles you』ve skimmed through, you are not getting smarter ——
常規獲取知識的方式並沒有讓我們充分利用大腦的潛力(conventional systems of knowledge acquisition fail to make use of the brain』s potential),因此我們才沒有機會將所學的知識好好利用。
比起從各種網站上獲取信息片段(grasp tidbits of information from the vast amounts online),不如學著讓大腦以有效的方法(learn in an authentic way)來學習。
Today, we have sacrificed the quality of the knowledge for quantity.
當我們獲取到更多信息時便會感到無比興奮,總怕錯過任何信息對自主學習產生不利的影響(plagued by our own fear of missing out to the detriment of authentic learning),然而單純地存儲信息並不能取代依靠努力踏實地學習。
(While it』d be perfect to absorb and apply 100% of the information, it』s not quite possible),不排除有一些富有成效的人(hyper-proctive indivials)可以實現上述的情況,但我們中大部分人都做不到。
如果你想要長期保留住一些信息(hang onto information for the long-haul),就要有所選擇地收集,否則毫無計劃地從網上獲取信息就像是一口氣吃完一頓自助餐一樣(eat the entire buffet in one sitting),容易「消化不良」。
只有把大量的信息資源分成容易消化的幾部分(break the overabundance of resources into easily digestible pieces),這樣才能有時間把這些信息轉為已用。
If we can』t take in everything anyway, how can we really learn?——
Get your brain a filter — filter out information that won』t improve you——讓大腦成為一個過濾器,過濾掉那些對你毫無幫助的信息
隨著我們知識和技能的提高,過濾信息的標准也會有所改變(update the parameters of your filter)。
Take information into the real world — do what you』ve read to confirm your learning——
直到你不用再靠努力思考和回憶來施展新技能時(land the trick without thinking or recall information without struggling),就說明你已經完全掌握了這項技能。
Stay alert to what to learn next — avoid wasting time on unnecessary information——
找機會多實踐自己所學的技能,這樣你不僅會感覺到自己的進步,還能在面臨不同挑戰時充分利用自己所學到的知識(make use of what you already know when you take on a different challenge)。
你所學到的滑雪知識又會怎樣影響獲取新技能和面臨新挑戰的道路(impact the way that you approach new techniques and challenges)呢?
To get smarter, it』s not about how much you』ve known but how much you』ve brought into play——
